6 How low should you go? For most situations, yo u should install your Ski mmer transducer s o that its centerline is level wit h the bottom of th e boat hull. 7 However, the shoot -thru-hull instal lation does hav e its drawbacks. First, some loss of s e nsitivity d oes occur, ev en on the best hull s. This varies from hull to hull, even from differe nt installat ions on the sam e hull. This is caused by differ ences in hull lay-up an d construction. 8 If the trans ducer's face isn't p arallel with the gr ound, remove th e transducer and ratc hets from the bracket. Plac e the ratchets into t he holes in the bracket with the let ter "B" aligned with the dot stamped in the bracket. Reassemble the transduc er and bracket and place them again st the transom. 9 Mark the center of eac h slot for the mounting sc rew pilot holes. You will drill on e hole in the c enter of each slot. Drill the holes using the #29 bit (for the #10 screw s). The su rface of the hull m ust be flat so the entire transduc er face is in contact with the hull prior to bonding.
